Joseph the Carpenter Focus Groups

What are the Joseph the Carpenter Focus Groups?

The purpose of this Focus Group is to help evaluate the manuscript for the book, Fatherhood Principles of Joseph the Carpenter: An Example of Godly Fatherhood. Our desire is to: (1) read the book manuscript, (2) meet and discuss the material in the book and (3) give feedback on the effectiveness of the material and principles in the book.

A bi-product of participation in the Joseph the Carpenter Focus Group is the opportunity to: (1) personally develop in Godly fatherhood understanding (and practice where applicable), (2) assist other men in their fatherhood development and (3) fellowship with other Christian (and non-Christian) men.

For more information please see the Joseph the Carpenter Focus Group Advance Materials which are distributed to men who have agreed to participate in a focus group.

How Can I Join a Focus Group?

Currently, there is one Joseph the Carpenter Focus Group under way (begins October 4, 2008) in New York City. We are recruiting for three other possible groups: (1) a focus group for men in their twenties in the New York City area, (2) men who would like to start a focus group in another part of the country (or world) and (3) men of all ages who would like to read the book on their own and answer the discussion questions.

For more information please e-mail us at: info@rfathers.org

Free copies of the book: Fatherhood Principles of Joseph the Carpenter: An Example of Godly Fatherhood are available for those men who are ready to get started.

How are Focus Groups Conducted?

  1. Normally, the group will meet to discuss the assigned chapter(s) and answer the discussion questions. The discussion questions are to help facilitate the anaylsis of the material and the principles in the book. See discussion questions below: Discussion Questions

Nine meetings of 60 to 90 minutes can be sufficient to cover all of the material (in the book) depending on the size and preparedness of the members of the group. The assigned chapter(s) should be read ahead of time.

  2. Format and Agenda
    1. Opening prayer
    2. Discussion of questions on the assigned book chapter and relevant scriptures
    3. Summation
    4. Confirm next meeting (time and place)
    5. Distribution of materials for next meeting (discussion questions)
    6. Prayer requests and corporate prayer
    7. Fellowship (lite lunch)

Focus Group Discussion Questions

Suggested discussion questions are provided for each of the nine meetings. However, the questions below are meant only to guide the group and to spark discussion. Other Biblical material and any questions you might have on the subject matter are welcome - as long as the discussion questions provided are answered.

The discussion questions for each meeting should be distributed at the previous meeting. This will enable focus group members the opportunity to think about the questions and make notes.
